The Stechford Races and Charminster Spiritualist Church
I am in the fortunate position of being able to organise charity fundraising evenings for some really great causes. In February, I met two students, Colin and Heather, at the Barbanell Centre, who are driving from Birmingham to Mongolia, and back, in a 1971 VW Beetle, which is endearingly called Betty. Betty is raising money for Claire House Children's Hospice, which helps seriously and terminally ill children live life to the full by creating wonderful experiences, and by bringing back a sense of normality to their family's life.
As soon as I heard about Colin and Heather's adventure, I just had to get involved. A date was set for 22nd March, a theme was decided upon - a charity race evening - and the hard work begun to get the 60 people together to have a dinner and raise much needed funds for Claire House. I got up at 4am on Wednesday morning to attend Birmingham's Wholesale Flower Market, and buy each guest a miniature rose plant, as a token of our appreciation for attending the event. Then at 7pm the night begun in earnest. As always I got roped in to making myself look stupid: this time I got dressed up as a horse and jockey. The night was a massive success and we raised £700 on the evening between the races and the raffle, which took about 30 minutes to draw because of all the number of great prizes donated. A big thank you to everybody who attended the event, and to Colin and Heather, not only for attending and giving a great talk about their adventure to Mongolia, but for actually doing it in the first place.
After the race night, I made the 3-hour drive down to Charminster, near Bournemouth, to teach a fantastic group of 16 students for four days. The students were a joy to teach. We spent a lot of time focusing on how to establish the spirit communicator, and it was really nice to see the students putting into practise the teaching, and seeing them take a step forward.
On Saturday evening I demonstrated my mediumship at Charminster. It was great to see a full church, and to see so many people who had never attended a demonstration of mediumship before, as well some familiar faces. I always throughly enjoy working with the spirit world, and Saturday evening was no exception.
